Scripture tells us time and again that we should fear God, and yet most of what we have done through the centuries has chipped that fear away. Of course, faithfulness inspired by fear is not faithfulness at all. We know God loves us and is faithful to us, and yet somehow we have lost that reverence and respect that we once had. Our reverence belongs to God and no one else.
